I recognize all the potential this has in changing the way forward, but it’s not the first time we are there, just to end up on the same or even worse shape than before we started.
The draft will be awesome, it’s what they do with it what would make a difference.
As posted earlier, the WWE draft rules are out:
RAW has the first overall pick
Since SmackDown Live is a two-hour show and RAW is three hours, for every two picks SmackDown Live receives, RAW will receive three picks
Tag Teams count as one pick unless a Commissioner/General Manager specifically only wants one member of the team
Six draft picks will be made off the NXT roster
Here’s my take:
- Smackdown staying at 2 hours. They should be the same length. I would say both at 2 hours is just fine. Most times RAW ends up with filler stuff that it’s just a waste of time and resources. Look at the success of Lucha Underground. They do so much with so much less time.
- Smackdown having less picks. For a supposed face off between the brothers and brands, Smackdown is again starting with handicaps. No only they have less time, they also get less picks. They should have the same amount.
- Breaking Tag Teams. I don’t think there are enough teams in the division, at least real contender teams. This one really depends on how they will handle the tag team title, defended in both or split into two titles. I don’t think they have enough to split titles. We’ll have to wait and see how this goes on.
The only positive part is the NxT picks. I believe this will be the picks:
- Finn Balor
- American Alpha
The GM picks will be important as they would shape the brands as I expect the McMahons to be mostly hands off.
