With the brand split one week away, we had a solid show.
No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal for Intercontinental Championship
At least the Intercontinental title got some direction now. We saw The Ascension reunited (or at least I realized on this match). Although unexpected, having Daren Young winning is refreshing.
Seemed like a Crews/Corbin feud started brewing.
Zack Ryder vs. Sheamus
Not sure what’s going on here. I’m glad Zack got a title shot, but he’s set to lose already. I wouldn’t be surprised Sheamus cost him somehow the match as well. I don’t expect him to come out wit the belt at Battleground. Was an OK match, but they had better as recent as last Thursday.
The Lucha Dragons vs. Breezango
Even with the minor botch, this was a good match. Glad they are taken more seriously now.
The Rollins Report
Although funny at times, I think it stretched way too long.
Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro
Titus O’Neil vs. Heath Slater
And then it went south. Nothing to see either in the action or story. I guess made to make Titus looks strong. I don’t think that even worked.
The New Day Visit The Wyatt Family Compound
This was both creepy and interesting. Was like watching a scary movie. This was a great move, bringing back the mysticism to the Wyatts.
I wouldn’t consider it a match, so no score for this one.
Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson
Average match. The feud is working fine, but the Club looks less of a threat recently.
Sasha Banks vs. Dana Brooke
Strong showing for both. Dana is growing a lot, but not ready yet for prime time. She’ll get there.
That said, not sure if having a rematch on Smackdown is smart. But I do count on Dana to make it well worth it.
Vince McMahon Names a SmackDown Commissioner
We’ll see how this goes. Not sure how 2 GMs makes sense here. As long as it doesn’t turn into two McMahon shows, we should be fine. Hopefully the GM will keep the McMahons away from TV with exceptions.
If not for a few bad matches the in-ring action and story telling was way better than last week.
The lack of main event might have affected this as the last segment was not great. I agree with Shane being moved to Smackdown, he’ll bring the change it needs to compete with RAW.
