Is Cody Rhodes Going to Ring of Honor?

Cody Rhodes recently posted on Twitter a checklist that started with Adam Cole and ended with Roderick Strong. Also on that checklist was Ring of Honor notables Moose and The Young Bucks. Is this Rhodes hinting at what’s next? It seems to me that we may see Rhodes in Ring of Honor. So if this is the case why is Rhodes going from the alpha of wrestling WWE to the Indy scenes?

Well that makes me wonder. Rhodes seemed to be a rising star in the WWE at one point. He was a talented wrestler that  seemed to have everything going for him until he became Stardust. I thought Stardust was a great character but there is one problem with Stardust. He doesn’t work without his brother, Goldust. When Rhodes became Stardust and teamed with Goldust I thought it was a great character change. I thought those two were well on their way to becoming a top tag team. Then what happened? Well, WWE decided to split them shortly after and Cody Rhodes took a backseat to a lot of talent.

What really killed Stardust is teaming him with a tag team like The Ascension. The Ascension is a weak tag team in a weak tag team division. The Ascension will probably be released soon. Konnor is suspended and rumors say that Vince McMahon isn’t fond of them.

The other thing that killed Stardust is like I already said, without Goldust it’s a character that simply doesn’t work. When they broke them up and quit their feud Stardust should have went back to Cody Rhodes. I think the fans just lost interest in Stardust as time went on. He got good pops at times and other times fans just seemed not interested. Stardust was too over the top at times and it also seemed to just kill his character. Give Rhodes credit he really got into character when he was Stardust.

If Rhodes goes to ROH he would instantly be a top star. He’s a talented wrestler that should have been utilized more in WWE. Maybe this will get Rhodes back on the map and we see him back in the WWE. Never say never when it comes to WWE.

Ryback has been teasing a TNA run. He was another talent that fans started to get behind and then his gimmick changed and his attire changed and the fans lost interest. The Goldberg chants became louder and the boos started more. It’s crazy how a gimmick change or even an attire change can completely kill a character.

I think the WWE has lost some good talent that would’ve benefited with the upcoming brand split. No one will miss Cameron, Adam Rose, or even Wade Barrett. Well I won’t miss Wade Barrett and he didn’t seem to have a huge fan base. He was a talented wrestler however. Ryback and Rhodes were at one time talents that seemed to have a huge upside but they fizzled out. Damien Sandow was a head scratcher as well. Fans absolutely loved the guy and instead of giving him a push they buried him and then let him go. Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas keep getting TV time though…

Whether Cody Rhodes and Ryback end up in ROH or TNA remains to be seen. Rhodes should be in WWE still and should be getting a push at least in the mid card and I would say the same for Ryback. Ryback didn’t do himself favors with his blog and I don’t know what goes on backstage. Which makes me wonder why Rhodes was released or became a jobber essentially. But Rhodes has made some interesting tweets that make me wonder if Ring of Honor will be his next destination. Only time will tell but I would rather see Rhodes in a WWE ring.

  1. Without the brand split I thought it was a good idea for both as they were underused. With the brand split upon us and all the opportunities it opens I’m not so sure. Wonder if they were aware prior to their departures.

On the other side, if they are keeping the same WWE creative, the chances were slim of them moving up, specially Rhodes. Ryback had more chance IMO.
