Extreme Rules Recap

I predicted a weak show and we got a bit better than expected, with two great matches and a big return. Show was just above average even with all that.

The Dudley Boyz Clash with Colin Cassady

Without Enzo, Big Cass can’t carry the gimmick on the microphone, just doesn’t work. The Dudleys had some fun part on their mic time.

It would have done more sense to see the Dudleys beat Cass and maybe use some weapons.

Table anyone?

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin (No Disqualification)

Nothing extreme here. The match was kind of bland. Glad it was in the kickoff, but not something that would make people run to get the Network.

The Usos vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (Tornado Tag Match)

Better than I expected, but nothing really special. Having it as the opening bout meant they would be involved in the main event for sure.

Kalisto vs. Rusev (United States Championship)

A dominant win for Rusev, getting him to be the beast he used to be. Nothing against Kalisto, but it was mishandled by creative going way to close to Rey Misterio.

The New Day vs. The Vaudevillains (Tag Team Championship)

Pretty solid match. The best Vaudevillains have looked since debut. This match really lacked on the story side, but I guess is due to Enzo’s injury and a quick change of plans needed as result.

The Miz vs. Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn (Intercontinental Championship)

This just stole the show. Everyone excelled in this match. Miz shined a lot here, besides retaining the title, he was able to keep up with the rest and gave us a great match. Match of the year candidate.

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho (Asylum Match)

As I mentioned on my previous post, this was a disappointing match. People will remember Jericho full of tacks, kudos to him, but the match was a snooze fest.

Charlotte vs. Natalya (Submission Match for Women’s Championship)

This had the potential to be a great match like they had before in NxT, but we got another snooze fest. Not sure if the Asylum match drained the crowd’s energy, but the crowd was almost silent on this one.

As much as I would love to see Natalya win, I knew it was not happening. Dana Brook will have a potentially interesting feud with Natalya after she costed her the match. Charlotte has an undefined path on front of her with Emma and Sasha out with injuries and Paige in a pretty bad spot with all her recent loses.

Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles (Extreme Rules, WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

This was a solid match. AJ has exposed the best from Reigns so far but it’s kind of hard to see them face each other again.

Then this happened…

A show better than what I expected, but then again I didn’t expect much out of this one. Two great matches (Intercontinental and Heavyweight title matches) the rest were average at best.

Seth return opens a lot of new doors. I’ll be looking forward for tonight’s RAW.

7/10 without the kickoff match

6/10 including the kickoff match
