According to WWE.com, the British high-flyer fractured his left ankle during a contest that was cut short when Y2J was disqualified for putting his hands on the official.
Dr. Chris Amann described the nature of the injury and laid out the next step for the Man That Gravity Forgot: “Neville sustained a left ankle injury on a baseball slide during his match with Chris Jericho. Initial X-rays reveal a fracture of the ankle. He will undergo further imaging today to determine the extent of the fracture and to determine if surgery will be necessary.”
As seen in this video, courtesy of WWE’s official YouTube account, Neville appeared to suffer the injury at the seven-second mark:
WWE has yet to place a timetable on the former NXT champion’s recovery, but Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com) reported Tuesday that Neville will “most likely” miss WrestleMania on April 3.
The 29-year-old Brit’s WrestleMania role was uncertain, but vying for Kevin Owens’ Intercontinental Championship appeared to be a possibility after Owens attacked him on the previous edition of Raw.
That may no longer be an option for Neville with the Show of Shows at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, now just three weeks away.
While Neville wouldn’t have been a featured player at WrestleMania, he could have created an all-time memorable moment in a potential ladder match for the IC title, so his possible absence certainly hurts the depth and wow factor of the card.
